Mary Ruth Reed Williams, 89, a native of Cortelyou, made her earthly transition Saturday, April 9, 2016 at her Sunflower home surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 7, 1926 to Henry and Maglene Curtis Reed of Cortelyou.

She was a member of the Lewis Grove Baptist Church in Wagarville, where she was the oldest member and served faithfully in many capacities, including Sunday school, missionary as well as loving to attend church as often as she could. Mrs. Williams loved cooking, enjoying her family, flowers and gardening.

Left to cherish her memories are three sons, Walter Williams, Cortelyou, Grady Williams and Calvin Williams, both of Sunflower; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; son-in-law, David Lee Gaston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Williams Sr.; sons, Fred Williams Jr. and Paul Williams; a daughter, Jeanette Williams Gaston; two sisters and six brothers.

The service will be Saturday, April 16, with viewing from 10 a.m. until the homegoing celebration at 12-noon at Lewis Grove Baptist Church of Wagarville with Rev. Ceasor Abston, pastor, the officiating minister. Interment will follow in the Lewis Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
