William Robert “Bobby” Lipscomb, 80, of Grove Hill passed away July 18, 2016 at his residence.

He was born Aug. 16, 1935 in Sylacauga to Robert Burns Lipscomb and Lillian Stewart Lipscomb. After 42 years of service with the Alabama Department of Transportation as a civil engineer, he retired in 1998. He was also an avid outdoorsman who spent most of his time in the woods or on the water at his camp in Gees Bend.

Survivors include four children, Tammy (Lyle) Beech, Chatom, Stacey (Stan) Gilchrist, Thomasville, Amy (Chris) Newton, Grove Hill, William Robert “Robbie” Lipscomb Jr., Grove Hill; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and the mother of his children, Geraldine B. Lipscomb.

His loving caregivers were Genet Horn, Rena Fuller, Frances Talley, Della Williams, Clidy Davis, Ginger Odom and the staff of Southern Care Hospice. His family will be eternally grateful for the care given to “Papa.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Brooks.

A visitation will be conducted from 5 until 7 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill on Tuesday, July 19. A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
