Mary Alice Edgar Pugh, 91, of Grove Hill departed this life Sept. 20, 2016 at Jackson Health Care Facility.

She was born July 3, 1925 to the parentage of the late Lewis Edgar and the late Susie Leonard Edgar. She was a member of the Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church of Grove Hill where she was the Church Mother. Earlier in life, she sang in the choir. Her favorite song was “I Called On The Lord And Got An Answer.” She retired after many years of service as a janitor at Clarke County High School and was a former member of the Bertha Mae Chapter OES. Her favorite hobby was cooking and she was well known for her caramel cake, collard green and candied yams.

She will be forever cherished in the hearts of her loving and devoted family; daughter, Alice Pugh Dickinson, Grove Hill; five grandchildren, Marquiz (Laquandra) Pugh, Mobile, Romallis Dickinson, Fayetteville, N.C., Damico Dickinson, Grove Hill, Kentrell (Ebony) Dickinson, Jacksonville, Fla., Keneshia Dickinson, Tuscaloosa; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Octavia Adams, Emma Pogue, Rosetta Edgar, Katie Edgar, Mandy Chapman, Vicie Bumpers and two brothers, Earnest Edgar and Fatris Edgar.

Viewing will be Saturday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service at Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church at 2930 Mt. Zion Road in Grove Hill with Rev. William Jackson as pastor and eulogist. Following burial in the Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church Cemetery, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church.
