William Jack McHaney Sr., 81, died at his home in Thomasville on Oct. 9, 2016.

He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was saved at Liberty Baptist Church in 1953. Jack attended Clarke County High School. He worked various jobs through the years, including positions at Scotch Lumber, McMillan Bloedel, Bradford Logging and Clarke County District 2. Jack loved raising vegetable and flower gardens, hunting and fishing. Jack truly loved his family, including his 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. His family loved him too and will miss him dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Criswell Varnadoe McHaney; sons, William Jack (Pam) McHaney Jr., Michael Everett McHaney and William Mark (Lee Ann) McHaney; daughters, Kathy Marie Booker, Jackie Elane Hardee, Margaret Ann McHaney (Jimmy) Powell and Lois Carol McHaney Powell; brother, Jim (Kathy) Hudson; sister, Mae Carol Hudson Hill; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great–great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Geneva Allen McHaney and Leonard McHaney; his wife, Sammy Helen McHaney; three brothers.

The service was Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at Dickinson Baptist Church. Interment was at Salem Baptist Cemetery in Scyrene with Rev. Leon Parnell officiating.

Active pallbearers were Jason Harvell, John Day, John Champion, Paul Stacey, Gil Vick and Kent Wiggins.

Honorary pallbearers included Will Vick, Maggie Vick, Greg Powell, Ray Worley, Randy Garrick and Ivin McManus.

 St. Stephens Funeral Home directed.
