Terry Joe Counselman, 74, of Thomaston, died Oct. 29, 2016 at his residence.

He was born Jan. 15, 1942 in Mobile to Truman E. and Edna H. Counselman. He was a graduate of the University of North Alabama and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired teacher and former mayor of Thomaston. He was a member of the Thomaston Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Counselman, Thomaston; two sons, Phillip T. (Laura) Counselman, Silver Hill, Thomas Bruce (Annette) Gwin, Gallion; son-in-law, Dennis Morgan, Thomaston; nine grandchildren, Stewart (Molly) Gwin, Nathan Gwin, Andrew Gwin, Benjamin Gwin, Tracey (Garrett) Hollon, James (Bridgett) Morgan, Kathleen Morgan, Olivia Counselman, Alice Counselman; five great-grandchildren, Ethan Hollon, Bethany Hollon, Wesley Hollon, Emily Hollon, Ellyson Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman E. and Edna H. Counselman, a daughter, Daphne G. Morgan and a grandchild, Christopher Gwin.

The service will be Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 at 1 p.m. with Revs. Randall Mims and David Trawick officiating. Burial will be in the Witch Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Campbell.

Active pallbearers will be Dannie Morgan, Stewart Gwin, Nathan Gwin, Andrew Gwin, Benjamin Gwin and Dwayne Huggins.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Thomaston Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class.

The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and everyone who sent cards, made phone calls, sent food and their visits.
