Thomas Bernard Newton, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016.

He was a native and resident of Clarke County, he attended school in Thomasville. He worked as an electrician in construction, continuing in the field until retirement from Ingalls Shipyard. He was also employed for a time by Linden Lumber Company. Thomas enjoyed the opportunity to teach some of his children the trade of an electrician. A member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Atkinson, he also attended Grove Hill Baptist Church. An avid animal lover, he enjoyed riding horses back in the day.

He was an easygoing person who would give you the shirt off his back and expect nothing in return. Visiting with other senior citizens at the center in Thomasville, where he shared meals and life stories, was one of his favorite things to do. His family loved him dearly and Thomas loved them. Instead of saying “bye,” he would always say “Y’all be careful!”

Survivors include two sons, Matthew (Dorothy) Newton of Mt. Vernon and Tim (Ashley) Newton of Mobile; daughters, Tammie (Mike) Davison of Spanish Fort and Theresa Reneau of Satsuma; Special friend, Catherine Knight of Grove Hill; brothers, Ramon (Marie) Newton of Thomasville and Joe (Doris) Newton of Chunchula; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dollie Magadeline Newton and Robert Ivey Newton, a brother, Willard Newton and granddaughter April Madden.

The service was Nov. 2 at 12 noon at Grove Hill Baptist Church. Interment was at the Bashi United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tony Meinhardt officiating.
