Gregory

A loving and devoted mother to her family, Mrs. Laura DeLone Morgan Gregory died peacefully this past Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the age of 93. Mrs. Gregory was born July 11, 1923 in Wilcox County to Jessie and Beckie (Champion) Morgan. Mrs. Gregory is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis Gregory, three brothers, Jessie B. Morgan, Ollie Morgan, Selden Morgan, a sister, Jean Burge, five siblings who died in infancy or early childhood, a son, Lloyd Franklin Morgan, and one grandson, Jerry Francis Newsom. She is survived by a son, Carl Morgan (Tish), four daughters, Patricia Sypher, Shirley Joyce Morgan, Merolyn Newsom ( Jerry), Juanita Reid (Ray), and many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gregory grew up in the Sunny South area and attended Cane Creek High School. She spent much of her adult life in Wilcox County before moving to Thomasville in the mid 1980s. Mrs. Gregory loved her family and was especially proud to be the head of five generations of females. She was known for being a dedicated correspondent and loved to keep in touch with friends and family, as well as send encouraging notes to those who were sick. She took great joy in growing beautiful flowers and loved to share them with her loved ones.

Mrs. Gregory’s funeral service was held Tuesday, December 6, at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill and was officiated by Rev. Marvin Smith, Jr. with interment in Kelly Cemetery in Pine Hill. Her family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel Clower and his staff in Selma for their many years of care and also, much gratitude to Jackson Home Health and their wonderful staff.
