Peavy

Hugh Peavy, 76, of Big Sandy, Texas passed away Jan. 25, 2017.

He was born Feb. 1, 1940 in Jackson to Martin and Mary Peavy. He graduated from Jackson High School and developed his love for electronics by working at a local TV repair shop. After graduation he attended Devry Technical School in Chicago, Ill. He returned to Jackson where he worked full time at the same TV repair shop. About the year 1960, he and some friends left and were going to Alaska to work when they ran out of money in Pueblo, Colo. He got a job there at a TV repair shop, the others returned to Clarke County. Peavy later purchased the repair shop.

He was in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a broadcasting technician for Industrial Maintenance Services. During the 1970s he became a Green Beret in the National Guard. He was always very proud of that accomplishment and even continued to jump from planes after he got out of the National Guard due to his work schedule. After a few years, he began working for Ampex International and traveled to many countries teaching people how to use the machines that the company sold them. He was sent to China to work and teach in 1974. He was one of the first Americans to travel to China after it was opened up for travel. The last job that he held was an engineer for a Fox TV station in Longview, Texas. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Regina Martin Peavy; sons, Sidney M.M. Peavy and John M.M. Peavy and his wife Kristina; sisters, Elizabeth Walker and mary Rice; grandchildren, Laken, Emmalyn, Kylie and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Sidney Peavy and Stephen Peavy.

A graveside service was Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. at New Hope Cemetery in Upshur County, Texas with Rev. Danny Trimble officiating.
