Davis

Rebecca Jean Chaney Davis, 74, exchanged time for eternity March 10, 2017.

She was born July 21, 1943 in Leroy. She was the fifth child of the late Arnetta and Elliott Chaney. Rebecca received her education from Prestwick High School and Alabama State University. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree, she taught one year in Florida. Later, she was employed by Washington County School System, where she worked as an educator for 30 years. Rebecca was the devoted and loving wife of Edd Davis for 49 years. Her dedication as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was obvious to all who knew her. She touched the lives of many people from the least to the greatest. She showed the love of God to everyone she encountered.

She was a faithful member of St. Union Baptist Church in Leroy, where she served in many capacities in the church, including as a Sunday School teacher, church secretary, choir member, mission president and Vacation Bible School director. She was also an active member of the Bladon Springs Baptist Association District, where she served as secretary and counselor for “Child Promotion” on the local and state levels.

She leaves to cherish her legacy a devoted husband, Edd Davis, Leroy; one daughter, Angela Baker, Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Thomas (Renita) Davis, Jackson, Cedric (Shelia) Davis, Leroy, Stanton (Kenya) Davis, Wagarville; four sisters, Margaret Gillmore, Gloria (Ronald) Bizzell, both of Foley, Bettye (Joseph) Poydras, Lawrenceville, Ga., Rose Chaney, Pell City; two brothers, Richmond (Clydine) Chaney, Millry, Robert (Mincha) Chaney, St. Stephens; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; son-in-law, Dwayne Pugh; brother-in-law, Charles (Bettye) Davis; sisters-in-law, Willie Lou Chaney, Mary Johnson, Martha Davis, Catherine Davis, Dora Davis and Edna Crawford; in addition to a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Deloris Wiley and Carrie Lacey, brother James Chaney, and daughter Chandra Davis Pugh.

The service will be Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Union Baptist Church in Leroy, with Rev. Richmond Chaney, pastor, as eulogist and Rev. James McGhee Jr. as presider. Interment will be in the St. Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
