Bessie Mae Shepherd Autry, 90, of Coffeeville passed away May 4, 2017 at Mobile Infirmary.

She was born Aug. 15, 1926 in Coffeeville. She was a graduate of Livingston State Teacher’s College. She was a retired Clarke County School Teacher who taught children primarily in Coffeeville for over 40 years.

Survivors include her children, Johnny Randolph “Ranny” Autry, Joseph Arthur “Artie” Autry and Jennifer Autry (David D.) Wilkins; sister, Elray Shepherd Sellers; sister-in-law, Josephine Norris Shepherd; grandchildren, Shana (Tim) Jordan,l Catrelle Giles, McKenzie (Aubrey) Legendre, Jessica Autry, Blake Autry; six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Crocker Shepherd, Mary Emma McIntyre Shepherd; husband, John Willard Autry; brothers, Coleman (Isabell Howell) Shepherd, Tence (Golden Dunagan) Shepherd, Tince (Naomi Guy) Shepherd, Willard Shepherd; sister, Nellie Gray Shepherd; and a brother-in-law, A.J. Sellers.  

The service was May 6 at noon at Ulcanush Baptist Church with Rev. Jessie Griffith officiating. Burial was in the Ulcanush Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Eugene Dunegan, Byron Dunegan, Greg Dunegan, Donnie Shepherd, Donnie Shepherd, Pat Pierce, Johnny Autry.

Honorary pallbearers were Conway Dunagan, Duelon Dunagan, Hank Dunagan, Charles Craft, Harold Alford and Obie D. O’Neal.
