Gravel Lee Coats Morris, 82, of the Suggsville community of Grove Hill departed this life May 24, 2017 at UAB Hospital.

She was a native of the Ebenezer Community of Coffeeville. She was born June 6, 1934 to the parentage of the late Tollie Coats and the late Mazie Ella Cox Coats.

Mrs. Morris, a homemaker, was a member of the Saint Peter Baptist Church where she sang in the choir before her health failed. She enjoyed raising fresh vegetables for her family to enjoy, as well as gardening beautiful flowers and reading. Mrs. Morris loved basketball and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers and the LA Lakers.

She will forever be cherished in the hearts of her loving and devoted children, one son, Danny (Iola) Brooks, Packers Bend; five daughters, Gwendolyn (Henry) Briggs, Grove Hill, Alenda (late, Tarzell) Waller, Victorville, Calif., Clotilda Morris, Grove Hill, Janice Washington, Grove Hill, Bronwynne (Ronald) Morris-Jordan, Victorville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Morris; seven sisters, Pearlie Mae, Elmarie, Ellen Ray, Lela Mae, Delma, Mary Lee and Dorothy Ruth; and one brother, Tollie Jr.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m. until the 12 p.m. service at Saint Peter Baptist Church, 3887 Simmons Creek Road in the Allen Community of Grove Hill with Rev. Matthew Davis, pastor and eulogist. Burial was in the Saint Peter Baptist Church Cemetery. Following burial in the church cemetery, the family will receive friends in the dining hall of the church.
