Robert C. “Bob” Bumpers Jr., 70, of Jackson passed away May 28, 2017 at his residence.

He was born Dec. 15, 1946 to Robert Bumpers Sr. and Keeble Bumpers. A teacher at Jackson High School, he served the school in many capacities, including coaching with the football team and softball team and was a member of the Aggie Nation. He was also active in the community, serving on the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Clarke County Representatives Committee and National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF). An active member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, he was a longtime Sunday school teacher and deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Bumpers; daughter, Candace Bumpers and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The service was May 31 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Jackson with Dr. Ben Stubblefield officiating. Interment was at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Winn community.

Active pallbearers were Daron Bolen, Harold Everhart, Joe Etheridge, Danny Hayes, Danny Powell, Eddie Brundage and John Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, Jackson High School Faculty, the Aggie team, his Sunday School class and Bubba Butts.

Flowers will be accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Jackson Volunteer Fire Dept., at 118 College Ave., Jackson, AL 36545.
