Vermel Taite Hamilton, 79, of Hopkins, S.C. born to William Taite Jr. and Adelia Mae (Banks) Taite on Dec. 17, 1937, passed on peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 surrounded by family.

Her paternal grandparents were William Taite Sr. and Sarah Taite. Her maternal grandparents were John Adam Banks and Diana Banks.

Vermel found Christ at an early age and was baptized at Little Rock Church. She attended Mackey Branch Middle School. And as a teen, she moved to Lockport, Ill. where she finished her high school education. There she met her husband. She was united in marriage to John Adam Hamilton Sr. and to this union, six children were born. She was a long time member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Lockport and later, Christ Universal Temple in Chicago, Ill.

Vermel always looked after her family. When she was younger, she would look after her brothers, Deottis, George and William when their mother was not home. She continued to look after her brothers when they were all older. When family members were ill, she would care for them. She also tried to be with her Mother and Father for the Little Rock Homecoming every third Sunday in October.

Leaving to cherish memories are her two brothers, William D. Taite, George L. Taite; her Aunt Arcy Lette McArthur along with her five children, Patricia (Wince) Milsap, Vera E. Hamilton, Delores (James) Witcher, John Adam (Joann) Hamilton Jr., Calvin Hamilton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, Joyce Hamilton Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, her former husband, John Adam Hamilton Sr. and her son, Bernard Hamilton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24 at 11 a.m. at Little Rock Baptist Church at 1100 Mile Post Road in Whatley. Burial will be in the Little Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
