July 21, 2017 Jesus came for James Larry Blanton, 80, to take him to his mansion Jesus had prepared for him.

He was born Sept. 20, 1936 in Atmore and surrendered his life to Christ in September 1979; faithfully serving Him every day since. He was baptized at Mims Baptist Church and served as a deacon, class department leader and on several committees for the church. During the 1980s, he was well loved as a bus driver for the LLL Seniors as they made many trips around Texas and Louisiana.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Jim served in the Gideon ministry since 1982 in many different camp offices. He served three years on the Alabama State Gideon Cabinet as area director and most recently was chairman of the GideonCard Bible program for the Conroe Camp. Jim and his wife of 61 years have participated in numerous church building mission trips in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Kentucky. They also served as voluntary missionaries for the IMB at the Spanish Language Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica at various times between 1997 and 2001. Other mission work includes trips to Honduras, Panama and Dominican Republic. The most recent trips were house to house sharing Jesus with the people of Rwanda, Benin and Brazil with the International Commission. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and served for four years. Jim began his career as an air traffic controller in 1959 and transferred to several control centers before moving to Conroe in 1965 with the Houston ARTCC where he worked until 1979.

He was co-owner of Monroe Motors from 1968 until 1977 with his friend Dale Hamby. He and Dale continued as partners in real estate and three other small businesses. During this time, Jim was an active member in Lions Club International for 15 years. In 1980, he opened City Auto Sales of Conroe, and sold used cards until 1955 when he closed it down to move back to Alabama to help care for his ailing father. Jim and Kathy returned to Texas in 2009 and resided in Texas National Subdivision out of Willis.
