Hosie Ambrose, 92, of the Manila community, departed this life July 30, 2017 at the Jackson Health Care Facility.

He was born to Luvenia Bettis Clarke and James “Joe Pouncy” Ambrose Dec. 28, 1925 in Suggsville.

Hosie accepted Christ at an early age, uniting with Cedar Fork Baptist Church in Suggsville. During his spare time, before declining health, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and hanging with “the fellows.”

Left to cherish his memories are two sons, Jesse (Rebecca) Ambrose, Mobile, Ezzard Charles (Jennifer) Ambrose, Butler; five daughters, Mamie Frowner, Mobile, Alice (Mack) Frowner, Manila, Helen (Dexter) Hunt, Alma, Barbara (Nathaniel) Caster, Mobile, Emma Bryant, Walker Springs; four brothers, Johnny (Theresa) Ambrose, Grove Hill, Estee (Corine) Thomas, Charlie (Sarah) Clarke, Joseph (Bernice) Clarke, all of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Maybelle Johnson, Buelah (Rev. Alphozso) Wright, both of Mobile; 28 grandchildren, two devoted, Dee Dee and Kenyetta; 30 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives; and two devoted friends, Rev. Henry Frowner and Jackie Brown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Ambrose; two sons, Jonnie R. Ambrose and Baby Ambrose; three brothers, John Clarke, Zebede Thomas and Alexander Thomas; and one sister, Lucille Mitchell.

The service was Aug. 5 at Antioch AME Church in Alma with Rev. Johnathon Baker as pastor and Rev. Henry Frowner as the officiating minister. Interment followed in the Rhode Hannon Cemetery in Manila.
