Lorena Brown Bettis, 91, of Jackson answered the Master’s call Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017 at River Chase Nursing Home in Gautier, Miss.

She was born March 13, 1926 to Della and Joe Brown in Jackson. She was a faithful member of the St. Union Baptist Church prior to her health failing, Lorena was a loving kind and humble spirit that would help anyone by feeding them or giving them a place to stay if needed.

Left to cherish her memories are her two devoted children, daughter Della Ann Rencher, Gautier, Miss. and son, Milton Bettis, Citronelle; eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-grandchildren; a devoted brother-in-law, Dewey Johnson, Jackson; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Gloria Bettis and Gwendolyn Sims; one son, George Bettis; a granddaughter, Laura Sims; five sisters, Sallie B. Johnson, Stella Davis, Margaret Brown, Letti Thomas and Louella Montgomery; and one brother, Roosevelt Brown.

Public viewing will be Friday, Aug. 18, from 4 until 6 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 19, with viewing from 1 until the homegoing service at 1 p.m. at St. Union Baptist Church in Jackson. Rev. James M. Howard, pastor, will be the officiating minister. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson.
