Wesley Armstead, 84, a native and resident of Whatley, answered the Master’s call on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.

Born Jan. 17, 1933 to Dosey and Henrietta Rogers Armstead. He was a member of the Indian Ridge Baptist Church of Whatley. He worked for Troy Moore and John Anderson for many years; and he was the shop foreman at the Clarke County Board of Education Bus Shop where he retired after 19 years of service as a mechanic. He loved working on cars and buses. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends telling jokes and having a good time.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Maxine Davis Armstead, Grove Hill; four sons, Michael Armstead, Moss Point, Miss., Torrance Armstead, Pueblo, Colo., Carl (Ramona) Armstead, Jackson, Jerome Horn, Grove Hill; five daughters, Margaret Tabb, Patricia (Adrian) Barnette, Latasha (Mike) Burroughs and Monica Horn, all of Grove Hill, Iris (Kelvin) Broughton, Monroeville; two sisters, Emma Lynum, Whatley, Nettie Lou Stallworth, Satsuma; 11 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents Dossie and Henrietta Rogers Armstead, 7 siblings and his granddaughter Caitlin Armstead.

The service was Sept. 30 at Indian Ridge Baptist Church in Whatley with Rev. Johnny Lynum, pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the Indian Ridge Church Cemetery.
