Jonnie Slater, 78, a native of Coffeeville and resident of Uniontown, transitioned from this life on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Bryan Whitfield Hospital in Demopolis.

He was born Dec. 24, 1938 to Evander Sr. and Hattie Scruggs Slater.

Jonnie was a graduate of Clarke County Training School. He was employed at Middle Tex Water Works for a number of years in Elizabeth, N.J., until retiring. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Sandra Arnold; granddaughter, Ayleah Arnold, both of Mobile; a devoted friend, Lyntione

Cluster, Uniontown; brother, Earl (Gladys) Slater, Lemon Grove, Calif.; three sisters, Frankie E. Fluker and Pearlie Bell, both of Coffeeville, and Lucille Rocker, Choctaw Bluff; sister-in-law, Mary Slater, Uniontown; a host of nieces and nephews, one devoted, Woodie Pugh Jr. of Jackson; devoted and dedicated friend, John Gray of Uniontown; with other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Evander Jr., James, Jimmy and Vernon Slater; and sister, Viola Slater Pugh.

The service was Sept. 30 at Union Baptist Church in Coffeeville with Revs. Clayton Davis Jr., pastor, and Jerome Bell, nephew, as the officiating minister. Interment followed in the Coffeeville Cemetery.
