William Fox Jr., better known as “Jaybird,” 80, made his earthly transition Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at his home in the Manila community of Gainestown. He was born June 4, 1937 to William Sr. and Mary Savage Fox. He united with St. Matthew No. 1 Baptist Church in Manila and served as a deacon. He supported his family by working in the logging industry. He loved hunting and singing.

William leaves to cherish his loving memory three sons, William (Katherine) Foxx III, Bennie Foxx and Marvin (Starletta) Foxx, all of Gainestown; seven daughters, Rita Roberson, Aretha (Duane) Woolwine, Rosa Foxx and Melissa Foxx, all of Gainestown, Stephanie (Andrew) Thomas and Jennifer (Darius) Pulliam, both of Elkhart, Ind., and Louella Foxx, Auburn; one brother, Tecolian (Rosie) Fox, Alma; three sisters, Claudia Mc- Clain and Caroline (Nathaniel) Rivers, both of Manila, and Benny (Bobby) Dees, Gainestown; 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Fox; daughter, Tempye Ann Fox; brothers, Robert Fox, Freddie Fox and Roosevelt Fox.

Public viewing will be Friday, Dec. 8 from 1 until 2 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross Street, in Jackson. The service will be Dec. 9 from 10 until the 11 a.m. homecoming celebration at St. Matthew No. 1 Baptist Church, 5 Waverly Road in Manila with Rev. Willie Causey, pastor, as officiating minister. Interment will be in the St. Matthew No. 1 Baptist Church Cemetery.
