Robert Lee Powell, 80, a native of Prestwick and a resident of Detroit, Mich., departed this life Dec. 13, 2017.

He was born March 7, 1937, the son of Kathryn “Katie” Richardson and Josh Robert Powell.

He attended school in Prestwick, after which he moved to Detroit where he was the owner and operator of Powell and Sons Construction Company.

Left to cherish his memories are five sons, Roland L. Jones Sr. of Millry, Donald Barnett of Lansing, Mich., Terry Williford Toney of Detroit, Robert Lee Powell III of Selma and Lamar Jaheim King of Jackson; one daughter, Regina Blackwell Pearson of Detroit; a sister, Gloria Whitt of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Dixon.

The service was Dec. 23, in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Dave King as the officiating minister. Interment followed in the Good Hope AME Zion Cemetery in St. Stephens.
