Bert McKinner Coleman, 88, died Feb. 22, 2018 at Mobile Infirmary.

He was born June 20, 1929. He was a native of Alabama and resident of Clarke County. Bert was faithful in attending church until his health failed. He graduated from Clarke County High School where he played all sports. Bert was an outstanding football player and had earned a scholarship to college but was drafted into the Army. Bert served in the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bert had hunting dogs that he used specifically for deer, coon and birds. He raised horses and showed them at horse shows. He was a dedicated Alabama fan.

Bert met his wife, Betty in Grove Hill and they were married for 56 years. The two of them were always together. They enjoyed life camping at Gulf State Park Campground and other campgrounds.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty DuBose Coleman, Grove Hill; special great-niece, Melissa ( Jason) Huckabee, Grove Hill; nieces, Kathy Hurd, San Antonio, Texas, Rebecca Dagostin, Safford; nephew, William J. Coleman Jr., Montgomery; numerous other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary M. Coleman and Mamie Bumpers Coleman; brother, William J. Coleman Sr.; sister Katherine Hurd.

The service was Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church with Bro. Carey Howard officiating. Burial was in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations made be made to The Parkinson’s Research Society or your favorite charity.

Active pallbearers were William J. Coleman III, Bryan Coleman, Victor DuBose, Jason Huckabee, Donnie Rickets and Larry Newsom.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Leff, Riley Leff, Danny Lee, Randall Robertson, Don Ricketts, Bobby Downey, Ward Edge, Todd Gilchrist, Hank Guy, Clyde Mack and Corey Covington.
