O.S. “Moon” Conerly Jr., 98, of Jackson, passed away April 9, 2018 surrounded by family.

He was born September 8, 1919 to O.S. Conerly Sr. and Annie Mae Glover Conerly. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Corps, he was also a long-serving member of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, VFW Post 5355, the American Legion and Jackson First United Methodist Church. His numerous hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Auburn University football and spending time with his many friends sharing stories.

He is survived by his children, William S. (Jody Page) Conerly, Leroy, Ann C. (Victor) van Leeuwen, Madison, Maria J. (Tim) Sullivan, Satsuma; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Doris Elwell Conerly.

The service was April 12 at 1 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Rev. Jim DuFriend officiating. Interment was at Pine Crest Cemetery in Jackson.

Active pallbearers were Daniel van Leeuwen, Jason Conerly, Jon Sullivan, Taylor Sullivan, Brandon Hale and Stacy Carpenter.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department
