Mary Elizabeth Finch Portis, 59, a native of Chicago, Ill. and a resident of Jackson departed this life Sept. 8, 2018 at Jackson Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 21, 1959 to the parentage of Mrs. Velma Nicholson Finch and the late George Finch.

She was a member of Little Burrah Baptist Church where she served on the hospitality committee, sang in the choir, and was an usher. Mary’s favorite sport was softball. She played on teams from Walker Springs and Alma.

She will be cherished in the hearts of her husband, Fred Earl Portis of Grove Hill; mother, Velma Nicholson Finch, Manila; one son, Leon Antwone (Shandula Williams) Reed, Sr., Pensacola, Fla.; four step-sons, Fredrick Campbell and Steven Campbell, both of Grove Hill, Jimmie Portis and Joseph Portis, both of Jackson; step-daughter Tiesh Campbell, Grove Hill; one brother, Charles Edward Finch, Manila; two aunts, Voncille Scott and Lillie Thomas, both of Chicago, Ill.; one uncle, Henry Nicholson, Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; Angel Reed, Manila, Amanda Reed, Franklin, Jacob Williams, Jackson, and Aalyiah Pritchett, Jackson; three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her father, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, LaKeisha Reed Williams; one sister, Diane Finch; two brothers, Kenneth Wayne Finch, George Christopher Finch, and two grandchildren, Leon Antwone Reed, Jr., and Amie Williams.

Viewing will be Saturday, September 15 at 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. service at Little Burrah Baptist Church at 11800 Morning Star Road in Jackson with Rev. Jimmy Snell, pastor and Rev. William Jackson, eulogist. Following the burial ceremony in Rhoden- Hannon Cemetery, the family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall.
