3 commissioners out so no quorum and no meeting Tuesday

Clarke County Commissioner and Chairman Bill Taylor sat in the middle of the commissioners’ podium all alone Tuesday morning as the meeting hour of 9 o’clock came. He went through the formality of the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer before Commissioner Jackie Ray Rush showed up. Rush complained that he started early.

Still, with three commissioners absent, there was no quorum and hence no meeting. Taylor said Commissioners Stan Hutto and Rhondel Rhone were in Montgomery working on a grant project for Fulton and he didn’t know where Commissioner Tyrone Moye was.

Taylor talked briefly with Interim County Engineer Lou Wallace and Assistant Engineer Jake Bailey about upcoming equipment auctions and the possibility of selling trucks and a motor grader. However, no action could be taken.

Commissioner Jackie Ray Rush said he wanted to correct a previous newspaper account about him wearing a tie: Rush said he always wears a tie to the official meetings (as do the other commissioners) but not to the work sessions the day before.

Tuesday’s agenda was light anyway. Items carried over to the Oct. 24 and 25 meetings were:

• Approval of GMC invoices for road projects;

• ADEM scrap tire estimates;

• Approval of hiring a jail maintenance technician;

• Approval of appointments to the ALA-Tom RC&D Council;

• Adoption of a resolution supporting proposed Constitutional Amendment 14.
