The Clarke County Drug Task Force arrested eight Grove Hill residents Monday and Tuesday for selling or otherwise distributing drugs.

Arrested Monday were Freddie Witherspoon, Britnie Jackson, Shelton Dickinson, Nadine Chapman, Terris Martin, Laquinton Denson and Kendrick Hill.

Tuesday, an eighth suspect was arrested, Douglas Robinson.

The arrests were made in the 4-H, or Wilson Hall, neighborhood; in the new Pines subdivision off of Carter Drive; and at the Pecan Grove Apartments.

All of the areas are adjacent to either Grove Hill Elementary School or Wilson Hall Middle School and considered to be school zones. State law adds seven years to sentences for first time offenders selling drugs in a school zone.

Clarke County Sheriff Ray Norris said the task force met Monday morning with Grove Hill Police Chief Woodie Coats, Jackson Chief Charles Burge and Thomasville Police Chief Mitch Stuckey to discuss further crackdowns on drugs.

Sheriff Norris said the arrests were the result of three or four months of drug buys by undercover agents.
