Alabama Power employees used a kid’s car and a cutout of a person to show what can happen if an electrical line falls on a vehicle and the person touches the vehicle. See the spark? Electrocution is a certainty. Alabama Power hosted a safety program for local first responders at the old National Guard armory March 26. Several fire departments, including Grove Hill, was represented. The program, called “Safe-T-Zone,” utilizes a trailer set up with electrical lines that generates 14,400 volts. First responders were warned of what to do if they encounter downed lines or broken poles. They were urged to be careful using ladders, erecting antennas or cutting trees around power lines. The demonstration was followed with a program that included videos. Alabama Power offers the program free. Call 1-800-806-SAFE or email safety@alabamapower.com for more information.
