The 100th meeting between Clarke County High and Jackson went the way of the Aggies with a sound 35-0 win in Grove Hill last Thursday night.

“Jackson definitely has a good football team,” CCHS Head Coach Junior Kelley said. “They are fast on defense,” he added. “But we didn’t execute very well offensively. You could see our youth and inexperience at times.

“That is something that we will be addressing this week as we get ready for a big region game with W.S. Neal,” Kelley said. “With having to play so many younger players we are going back to the basics and getting more fundamentally sound.”

Michael Phillips started the scoring for Jackson with a 1-yard run in the first quarter. McHargue kicked the PAT, making the score 7-0.

“We had a chance to go into the locker room down by one TD,” Kelley said. “But two big plays hurt us and instead it was 21-0.”

Demarcus Williams tossed a 33-yard TD pass to Kamiron Pugh and then minutes later Williams scored on a 1-yard sneak. McHargue kicked both point-after touchdown tries to give the Aggies a 21-0 lead at the break.

Jackson got the second TD following an interception.

Early in the third quarter Jalen King scooped up a Bulldog fumble and ran 37- yards for the TD. The final JHS score came on a Jamstican Chapman 17-yard run. McHargue remained perfect on his kicks to make the final tally 35-0 in favor of the Aggies.

“We just could not get any kind of rhythm going on offense,” Kelley said. “But on defense I thought they did pretty good. When we had some injuries to key folks, the ones who came in and the ones still out stepped up and didn’t do a bad job.”

Kelley pointed out that at one time there were only three seniors on the field for CCHS. “We hope to get the injured guys back this week,” added.

On Friday CCHS takes to the road to visit East Brewton and W.S. Neal.

“They have a huge offensive line and two really good running backs,” Kelley said. “This is a big game coming off the Jackson game. We have to limit the mental mistakes and not give up the big plays.”

“For these younger players last week was a blur for them. It was the first game and it was Jackson and the game never slowed down for them,” he added. “This week we will have to help them slow the game down. If that means having six or seven plays that we run really well, then that is what we will do.

“It is going to be about getting players on the field who understand what is going on,” Kelley stated. “That may mean the fastest may not be there all the time. We just have to go out and play the game.”

Kick off is set for 7 p.m. across Murder Creek in East Brewton.

The Aggies will again be on the road as they head to Mobile to play Williamson on Thursday night at Ladd Stadium. It will be a region contest that kicks off at 7 p.m.
