Kailyn SeRay “Ray Ray” Allen, 24, died July 22, 2011.

He was born Aug. 7, 1986. He was a native of Mobile. The son of Freda and Pervien Allen, the family recalls that he was always full of life. They signed him up for baseball at the age of 4 which created an unconditional love of sports. He was a 2004 graduate of Jackson High School, he received a full athletic scholarship in tennis to James H. Faulkner State Community College. He was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, finish in the top 15 at the National Junior College Tennis Tournament, receiving the award for highest grade-point average on the team and graduated cum laude with a degree in general studies in 2006. Upon graduation, he received an athletic scholarship from Alabama State University, along with an endowment from Phi Theta Kappa. In 2009 he received a Bachelor of Science degree at ASU and in 2010 a Masters at Auburn University in Montgomery in physical education. He was employed for two years as the Faulkner State tennis coach and had recently moved to Bay Minette in preparation for a teaching position at the local campus.

Survivors include his parents, Freda and Pervien Allen; fiancé, Brenis “Baby” Gray; brothers, Kamya “Shico”, Kouri “Chuck” and Kierston “Toy-Toy”; grandparents, Mack L. Pernell and wife, Eloise, and Lenora Allen; uncles, Byron (Aura) Pernell, Keith (Dyanne) Pernell, Mack Allen Pernell, Merlyn (Lisa) Pernell, Thomas (Ethel) Allen, Tollie (Linda) Allen, Willie (Deborah) Allen and Johnnie (Glenda) Allen; aunts, devoted godmother Tangila Pernell (James) Hurst, Freddie (Marvin) Langham, Nettie Bradley and Auntie “D”; and a host of cousins, close friends, mentor Dr. “Coach” Ritchie Dulaney, teammates, coworkers and student players.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carrie M. Pernell and great-grandmother, Annie L. Pernell Williams.

The service was July 27 at Mount Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson with Rev. Stevensen Tullis, pastor, Elder J.R. Turner Jr. presiding, and the Rev. Dr. Marvin Langham Jr. as the eulogist. Burial was at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.

Active pallbearers were Gregory Allen, Carlos Andrews, Thomas Allen, Jerold Gray, Kendrick Gray, Brian Pernell, Kawaski Pernell, Machaerus Pernell and Marcus Pernell.

Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Allen’s extended brothers.

Flowerbearers were his classmates and extended sisters. (28-1tp)
