Bumpers

Mrs. Aurie Lee Chapman Bumpers, age 87, a native and resident of Grove Hill was born November 24, 1924 to the parentage of the late Hallie Chapman and Lottie Chapman. She departed this life Sunday, May 6, 2012 at her home in the Zimco Community.

She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mount Zion Baptist Church #2 where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for the Primary Class, Secretary of the Missionary Department, a member of the Senior Choir, and many other ministries within the church.

Aurie was educated in the Clarke County (Coffeeville) Public School system, and boarding school in Bessemer. She was thoughtful, wise, outspoken and always inspired the value of education and goodwill to her children and others. Her 45-year tenure as a domestic worker, from which she retired, exhibited her skill, work ethic, and commitment. Her neatness showed natural elegance and was second to none.

Left to cherish her memories are her five children; Minnie (Flozell) Washington, Forestville, MD; Roosevelt (Sheila) Bumpers, Lexington Park, MD; Sharon (Furman, deceased) Vaughn, Sumter, SC; Floyd (Ramona) Bumpers, Rowlett, TX, and Warner (Yvette) Bumpers, Burke, VA; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Viewing will be Saturday, May 12 from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. service at Mount Zion Baptist Church #2, Grove Hill; Rev. Eddie Roy Pugh, Jr., eulogist. Following the burial in the church cemetery, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church.
