With their backs against the wall, the Clarke County High School Bulldogs exploded to a 41-0 region win over Monroe County last Friday night in Monroeville.

The Bulldogs needed a region win on the road to keep their playoff hopes alive and they answered that call with 35 points in the first half while holding the Tigers of Monroe County to just 73 yards of offense in the game.

On their very first play from scrimmage CCHS got all the points they needed as Trey Yelder ran 58-yards for the touchdown. Derrick Davis kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

Gordon McRae smothered a MCHS fumble on the next possession to give the Bulldogs the ball at the Tiger 39-yard line. Rayshon Horn capped the short drive with a 2-yard QB sneak. Davis again converted the kick to push the CCHS lead to 14-0 with 5:30 left in the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter the CCHS special teams came up big as they blocked a Tiger punt that Cameron Watkins recovered.

Javonta Gilmore took the pitch and sprinted 41 yards for the score. Davis again nailed the pointafter touchdown try and the Bulldogs had a 21-0 lead.

Later the Bulldogs had the ball again following a Monroe County punt. It took five plays to hit paydirt with Gilmore scoring from 35-yards out. Davis converted the PAT to increase Clarke County’s lead to 28-0 with 4:00 minutes left before the break.

Marquavian Cade recovered the second Monroe fumble of the evening at the CCHS 40-yard line.

Horn hit Jalen Betts for a 38-yard completion to get the drive started. Horn and Betts added a 15-yard pitch and catch to set up Yelder’s 6-yard scoring run with :34 seconds left in the half. Davis made the kick and the Bulldogs took a 35- 0 lead into the locker room.

The game’s final points came when Cade scored on a 14-yard run in the third quarter to make the final tally 41-0 in favor of Clarke County.

The Bulldog offense churned out 499 yards in the win with 321 coming on the ground. Yelder led the way with 148 on 13 car- ries and two TDs. Gilmore had 76 yards on two carries and two scores. William Foreman had 38 yards on six carries.
