Christmas Day 4-wheeler mishap injures granddad

An accident Christmas afternoon injured a grandfather who was riding his three-year-old grandson on a new fourwheeler, a Christmas present.

Kenneth Garrick of Jackson, who grew up in Grove Hill, was riding his grandson on the airport property on the small four-wheeler. A sudden turn threw the two off and Garrick landed on his head and he was knocked out. The child was not injured.

Garrick was taken to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital and from there airlifted to a Mobile hospital. He suffered bleeding on or near the brain and a fractured nose from the lick but is said to be better and was released earlier this week.

A family member termed the mishap a freak accident, saying they were riding slow on level ground and were not “horsing around.”

Also Christmas afternoon, local lawmen and state troopers worked a two-car accident on Highway 84 East. A car apparently rear-ended another vehicle that was turning left.

Details were not immediately available.
