Civil rights leaders recognized

Alberta Dixon and Eddie James, two Clarke County civil rights leaders, were honored by the county chapter of the Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC) at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast held Saturday, Jan. 13 at The Hall in downtown Jackson. Dixon, of Thomasville, is a retired educator and was the first black female elected to the Thomasville City Council where she served for more than 30 years. James is from Choctaw Bluff and was active in the Clarke County Voter League for years, first as treasurer and then as chairman. Both individuals are active in their churches and communities. They are shown in front. In the rear, from left, are Clarke County Commissioner Tyrone Moye, local ADC chairman; Pastor Benjamin M. Lightner of St. John AME Church in Eight Mile who was the guest speaker, and Clarke County Commissioner Rhone Rhone, ADC vice chairman.
