Veterans Day Appreciation- The Psi Omicron Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will host Veterans Day appreciation events on November 11, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the following locations: Thomasville City Hall in Clarke County, Marengo County Business Development Center in Marengo County and Piggly Wiggly parking lot in Wilcox County. There will be gifts for the first veterans to arrive.

A Holiday HeART fundraiser for the Grove Hill Cultural Arts Center’s art gallery will be held Thursday, Nov. 17 from 5 ntil 7 p.m. Refreshments will bs served and raffle tickets will be for sale to win custom art from local artists. The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will meet on November 17 in Coffeeville at the New Faith Baptist Church at 11:45 a.m. for Thanksgiving lunch with legislators. Members please remember to bring can goods to help with holiday meals.

The Town of Fulton’s Christmas Parade will be Sunday, December 18 at 2:00 p.m. Sign up by December 14. There is no entry fee.

Catholic Social Services in Jackson offers services for those in need. It is located at 1206 College Avenue. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Call 251-246-0131 for more information.

Lifeline Food Pantry offers food for those in need on the fourth Wednesdays of each month from 3 until 5 p.m. The pantry is located at the Jackson Fire Station on Highway 69, in the former National Guard Armory.

The Union Grove Baptist Church Care Center is open the second Friday and Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Located at 18957 Highway 69 in Coffeeville. The center is a thrift store for those in need of clothes and household items. Please wear a mask.

Social assistance at Salvation Army — The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9- 11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. For additional information call 251-246-5693.

VFW meets monthly in Jackson — The VFW on Club Wiley Road in Jackson meets the third Saturday of each month at 11 a.m.

Employment help for veterans available — If you are a veteran and need employment assistance, the Jackson Career Center can help. The Veteran Services team members are veterans themselves and understand the challenges of civilian transitioning. Marion Harrison oversees seven counties and is available by appointment at the Jackson Career Center, 205 Walker Springs Road. Southwest Alabama (RSVP) Retired Senior and Volunteer Program will collect any envelopes that you receive in the mail. Bring them by the Thomasville Nutrition Center so that the volunteers can get them ready to send to the Stamps for the Wounded and help our veterans stay mentally active. They’ve given so much for us. Let’s give back in this small way. The Thomasville Nutrition Center is located at 147 Adams Ave., Thomasville, AL 36784. The Stamps for the Wounded organization is dedicated to providing comfort and stimulating activity to the U.S. veterans through stamp collecting. Patrons of the Thomasville Nutrition Center clips stamps and sends them to Stamps for the Wounded.

Al-anon meets Tuesdays at St. Peter’s — Al-anon of South Alabama meets at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 200 Hospital Dr. in Jackson every Tuesday evening at 6:30. This is open to anyone that has a family member or close friend that is dealing with addiction. It is a confidential meeting to discuss the difficulties of having a loved one that is struggling with addiction. For additional information or questions, contact (251) 744-2458.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings are Thursday and Saturday nights at 6:30 p.m. Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting are Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. All meetings at in the Kids Room, behind Pineview Baptist Church. The church is located at 182 Moore St. in Thomasville.
