HIV Prevention Group meets



The Area-Wide HIV Prevention Community Network Group will meet Friday, April 14 at the Monroe County Health Department at 11 a.m. This meeting is open to anyone who supports increased awareness of HIV and stopping its spread. For more information contact Maureen Nichols at 251-275-7108.

Photo contest deadline near

“Photography In Your Own Backyard” entries must be turned into the libraries or the Chamber of Commerce offices in Jackson, Thomasville or Grove Hill by Saturday, April 15 deadline. Libraries and Chambers will have examples and details of the contest. Photographs will be on display Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30 at the United Methodist Church in Grove Hill. Gilchrist family reunion

E.M. Gilchrist Family Reunion will be Saturday, April 15 beginning at 10 a.m. with lunch at 12 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church on the Allen-Walker Road. All family and friends are encouraged to attend. Please bring a covered dish.

CCARC’s Spring Jubilee

Spring Jubilee 2006 is Saturday, April 22 . Events include a 5k/1m Fun Walk, Cruisin’ for CCARC Motorcycle Ride, a “Dog Walk” and a “Dog Show,” County Wide Tasting Fare, a silent art auction, personalized artwork such as ceramics, paintings and painted tiles created by the people that are supported, plant sale from the new greenhouse, entertainment by “After Five,” activities for children and more. Coffeeville Spring Clean-up

Coffeeville Community Spring Clean-Up will be Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. until. The meeting place will be the Coffeeville Medical Clinic. This is a project of the Coffeeville Beautification Committee. A dumpster will be set up across from Greer’s Monday, April 17 through Sunday, April 30. Please do not put any debris such as tires, batteries or applicances with free-on in them. This will be a morning of work on Saturday, April 22 where there will be fun, socializing, fellowshipping and eating. There will also be a special event for the kids after the cleanup. Clarke Prep beauty review

The 2006 Clarke Prep Elementary Beauty Review will be Saturday, April 22 at 6 p.m. in the school’s gym. Grades K-4 through Sixth Grade will participate. Admission will be $5 per person and $2 per student, with children under age 4 admitted free. The pageant is sponsored by the CPS Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders. GH Chamber’s meeting

Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce’s Quarterly meeting will be Tuesday, April 25 at noon at Gloria’s Pour House Cafe. There will be a candidate’s forum where you will be able to listen to the candidates running for County Commissioner District I. Everyone is invited to this Dutch treat lunch. CCAC open house planned

The Clarke County Advocacy Center will host an Open House Thursday, April 27 from 2 until 6 p.m. The center is located at 127 West Cobb Street in Grove Hill.

State arts council workshop

The Alabama State Council on the Arts will present a grant workshop on Friday, April 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. CCHS Old Timer’s reunion

The Clarke County High School Class of 1956 will be the honored class at the CCHS Old Timer’s Reunion Saturday, April 29 at the school’s cafeteria. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. A contribution of $2 each will be collected at the registration desk. Many former students and faculty members attended the reunion last year. Remember you do not have to be a graduate to attend the Old Timer’s activities

Forestry Festival

The Alabama TREASURE Forest Association’s SW Regional Forestry Festival will feature: Timber sports, animal demonstrations, arts and crafts, children’s activities, educational, hunting and recreational seminars and exhibits, along with lots of good food and entertainment. The festival will be at the Clarke Prep School in Grove Hill on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. For more information call 1-888-240-4694.
