CPS Gators beat Wayne; now look to area slate

The Clarke Prep Gators celebrated the seniors on the squad this past Saturday by beating Wayne Academy, Miss. 5-3 in Grove Hill.

Clarke Prep chased across two runs in the fifth frame to break the 3-3 tie.

Jesse Marshall had a hit and two RBI. Conner Bumpers and Powell Agee each had a hit and an RBI. Bret Dailey, Will Windham and Trace Phillips each had a hit. Ashton Williams had two hits.

Dailey earned the win as he scattered seven hits over seven innings, allowed three runs and struck out seven.

Last Friday the Gators traveled to Butler and fell 9- 2 to the Patrician Saints.

Bumpers had two hits. Phillips had a triple. Dailey, Marshall and Williams each had a hit.

Jay Davis pitched one inning and struck out three. Cody Van Winkle pitched one third of an inning. Phillips, who took the loss, pitched one and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. Will Windham pitched two and one-third innings and allowed two runs on four hits.

The Gators played a make-up game with Fort Dale in Greenville Monday afternoon. On Tuesday they were slated to travel to Jackson Academy. Thursday they return home to host Morgan in an area game.
