Alvin James Dickinson Sr., 81, better known as “Buddy,” made his earthly transition Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at his residence. Alvin was born Oct. 8, 1941 to Jessie P. Martin Dickinson and Alvin Dickinson.
Alvin grew up in the Zimco and Mt. Zion communities of Grove Hill. He was a truck driver for more than 40 years with Powell Trucking and Lauderdale Timber Co. He loved Alabama football and sitting and talking with friends and family.
Alvin leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 52 years, Christine; one daughter, Tamella Dickinson of Grove Hill; two sons, Alvin James Dickinson Jr. and Shannon (Tanesha) Dickinson, both of Summerville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara J. Jackson of Jackson; one aunt, Irma Martin of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters in-law, Willada Dickinson of Virginia Beach, Va. and Lula B. Anderson of Quitman, Miss.; one brotherin law, Willie V. McQueen of Decatur, Miss.; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Cassie B. Dickinson and Della M. Dickinson Welch; and brothers, Leon Dickinson, Bernard Dickinson and Jimmie Dickinson.
Service will be Saturday, Aug. 26, 11 a.m., at Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.
