Cheryl Anita Gordon, 62, a lifelong resident of Jackson, departed this life Feb. 25, 2020 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.
She was born July 17, 1957 to the parentage of the late Mr. Ollie Gordon and the late Mrs. Queen Johnson Gordon.
Cheryl was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church #1 where, in earlier years, she sang in the choir. She was a graduate of Jackson High School. Cheryl furthered her education at Hobson State Technical College in Thomasville, (presently Coastal Alabama Community College) where she received her certification in cosmetology. Her hobbies included spending time with (and enjoying) her family and friends immensely. She spent her leisure playing Tetris and Words With Friends.
Cheryl possessed two specific culinary skills which always put a smile on her family’s face:  making the best iced tea and frying the best catfish.  “Suga Doll”, as she was affectionately known, was a stickler for correct grammar. She encouraged her loved ones to always speak articulately.
Her demise will not lessen the love she shared with her devoted family; three sons, Kenyati Gordon of Troy, Corey Gordon of Jackson and Kourtney Gordon of Huntsville; two daughters, LaToya (Rev. Anthony) Parker of Jackson and Tiara Ervin of Prattville; five brothers, Dennis (Doris) Robinson of Ocala, Fla.; Gerald Gordon, Earl (Vickie) Robinson, and Eddie Lee (Debbie) Gordon, all of Huntsville and Jack (Lisa) Gordon of Jackson, Miss.; two sisters, Katrina V. Robinson of Miami, Fla. and Bettie (Glen) Williams of Jackson; dear and devoted friend, Rondallyn “Girlfriend” Jones of Jackson; fifteen grandchildren, Michyla, Keyshaun, Mya, Jadyn, Mariah, Jordyn, Adalyn, Adriauna, Kenya, Javien, McKinley, Kamiyah, Kourtney, Khloe, and Trevion “Tre”; two great-grandchildren, Keyshaun and Ayden, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John W, Gordon; and two sisters, Daphane Robinson and Meliany Gordon
Viewing will be Saturday, Feb. 29 at 12 noon into the 1 p.m. service at Mt. Olive #2 Missionary Baptist Church at 105 Griffin Street in Jackson with Dr. S. E. Tullis as pastor. Interment will be in the Blackwell Cemetery in Jackson. Please honor the family’s request that a repass not be held.
