LaTrese Enola James, 52, was born April 22, 1968 in Jackson to the late Minnie Lee Coleman James and the late Edward Lee James.

LaTrese was a graduate of Jackson High School in the Class of 1986, where she excelled as an All-Conference Lady Aggie basketball player. She furthered her education at Alabama A&M University in Normal (Huntsville) and Alabama Southern Community College in Thomasville. LaTrese was employed in Jackson as a licensed cosmetologist and businesswoman until her health declined. She was a member of Rivers of Living Waters Church in Jackson, under the leadership of Overseer Alvin McCreary and Pastor Kenneth Jones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kwaurence LaQuint James; grandmother, Mary Lee Bettis; grandfather, Jessie Bettis; uncles, Willie Coleman, Larry James and Otis Jackson; aunts, Emma Coleman Puller, Joyce Jones Wiggins and Gloria Coleman Adams.

LaTrese loved her nieces and nephews as though they were her own children.

Left with profound memories and unconditional love are her four brothers, Edward (Sherrita) James of Jackson, and Nicholas (Monique) Durdin, Tyreek Durdin and Tysheek Durdin, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five sisters, Vaneslia James of Jackson, Ulanda James of Bay Minette, LaMoslyn James of Robertsdale, Bernice (Raymond) Durdin of Charlotte, N.C., and Sonya (Sherod) Graham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; stepfather, Mose McReynolds of Jackson; stepmother, Regina Jackson of Bessemer; aunt, Marye (Fletcher) Law of Pelham; uncles, William (Myrtis) Jordan and Jerry Jordan, both of Jackson, Raymond Coleman and Danny Lee (Barbara) Bettis, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and John (Debbie) Bettis of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; god-children, Lilly House, Ricky House Jr., L’Kelton House, D’Nylah House and Brittnay Pritchett; best friend, Callie (Ricky) House; with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of loving cousins and friends.

A graveside celebration of life service will be Saturday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson.
