Lawmen think rash of thefts part of larger operation

The investigation into the theft of pickups, trailers, riding lawn mowers and other big items continues and as it does the size of the theft ring appears to be growing too.

The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, Grove Hill and Thomasville police departments initially investigated the theft of vehicles, trailers and items from Lewis Environmental Services in Thomasville and Grove Hill Tractor a couple of weeks ago. Since then, the investigation has grown to include other state agencies and possibly federal agencies as well.

Thefts are being found across a wide region of the state.

Lawmen are mum on the investigation but reportedly have leads in the most recent local thefts and are trying to make a connection with unsolved past thefts.

Sheriff Ray Norris promised that when an arrest is made, names will be released and more details told.

“No one wants to catch these folks more than I do,” he declared.
