Mathews resigns after 13 years as economic developer

Debra Mathews, executive director of the Clarke County Economic Development Partnership, has announced her resignation, effective March 17.

She officially turned in her notice to county officials on Feb. 17. Mathews had served in the position since 2002.

“For nearly 13 years I have truly enjoyed serving in this position and working to help improve Clarke County,” she said Monday. “It has been a pleasure to work with numerous civic organizations, community leaders and elected officials throughout the years. During these years there have been great strides made in Economic and Community Development in our County.

“Clarke County and the Clarke County Commission has been known for its willingness to work together and for their focus on improving our area of the state. I consider it a privilege to have been a small part of the improvements that have occurred in Clarke County.”

Mathews also said Monday that after March 17 she is willing to assist the county in some capacity so the development office will continue to function.

It has also been reported that Mathews’ assistant, Brittany Henderson, has taken a job with the county Department of Human Resources. March 12 is Henderson’s last day.
