Millry suffers two injuries in win over Florala last week; play on Thursday this week

The Millry High School Wildcats defeated the Florala High School Wildcats at home 55-7 on Friday, Nov. 4 and improved to 10- 1 on the season and 6-0 in the region and advance to the second round of the AHSAA Class 1A playoffs.

The win did come at a price as the Wildcats had two starters hurt and one may be lost for the rest of the playoffs.

The Wildcats scored first on a 26-yard pass play from Daylon Edmunds to Jaylen Manuel and Zach Jenkins made the kick to give Millry a 7-0 opening lead.

The Wildcats then scored a second touchdown on almost the same play with a 11-yard pass from Edmunds to Manuel. Jenkins made the kick to make it 14-0 when the first quarter ended.

Jquan Stewart caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Edmunds and Jenkins made the kick and the Wildcats widened their lead to 21-0 in the second quarter.

Edmunds next called his own number and scored a touchdown from six yards out and Jenkins makes the PAT to make it 28-0.

Eli Adams would catch a 38-yard touchdown pass from Edmunds and Jenkins put the kick through the uprights and it was 35-0.

Florala rallied and scored a touchdown right before halftime to give Millry a 35-7 lead.

Edmunds came out and scored a touchdown on a six-yard run in the third quarter and scored a touchdown on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter to give Millry a 48-7 lead in the game. Jenkins made the kick on one touchdown, but the two-point try failed on the other touchdown.

Jenkins scored the last touchdown on a three-yard run and he also made the kick to make it 55-7 when the clock ran out.

For Millry, Edmunds was 13 of 16 passing for 183 yards and four TDs and he rushed 10 times for 63 yards and three TDs, Manuel caught four passes for 56 yards and two TD’s and Adams caught three passes for 49 yards and a TD.

While most playoff games are on a Friday night, Millry will next play at home against Loachapoka High School on Thursday, Nov, 10 at 7 p.m. in the second round of the AHSAA Class 1A playoffs.
