Clarke County Democrat

Saluting our veterans

A special tribute to military veterans will be published in The Clarke County Democrat Nov. 8, the issue just before Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

“There is no charge for this salute to area veterans. It is a way to say thank you for your service,” said Democrat Publisher Jim Cox.

This is open to all veterans — from World War II up through the present. Veterans do not have to have served in a conflict to be recognized.

The newspaper is requesting the name, branch of service, rank and other pertinent service information regarding the veteran being submitted. Two photos — one from service years and a current one — are requested and a brief tribute as to why the individual is being honored.

More information and a form are on Page 11A.

Please note this is for living veterans because that is the purpose of Veterans Day, to honor living veterans. If this issue is successful, The Democrat will consider a memorial section for deceased vets prior to Memorial Day next year.

The deadline for submitting information is Oct. 26. However, the sooner it can be submitted the better.
