Earl Wayne Sheffield, 76, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019 at Mobile Infirmary.

He was born Oct. 11, 1943 to Honree and Mary Lou Sheffield.

He was a life-long member of Peniel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for more than 50 years. He was a self-employed construction contractor for many years before retiring from the Clarke County Board of Education.  He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joyce Sheffield; one daughter, Lisa (Steve) Furr and one son, Steve (Fortune) Sheffield; two grandchildren, Mary Kay “Mimi” (Mike) Foxhall and Steven Tanner Sheffield; two great-grandchildren, John Michael Foxhall and William Robertson “Wills” Foxhall; one brother, Jessie “Bookie” (JoAn) Sheffield and one sister Frances (Eddie) Rowland; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Earnest Sheffield.

The service will be Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Peniel Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service.  Flowers may be sent to Peniel Baptist Church or donations may be made to the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 1730 McVay Road, Jackson, AL, 36545 with Revs. Fred Odom and Gary Pickard officiating. Interment will be at the Peniel Community Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tanner Sheffield, Blake Sheffield, Jeffrey  Keel, Andrew Howell, Donald Dorman and Ellis Wiggins.

St. Stephens Funeral Home will direct.
