The red spider lilies usually don’t pop up until sometime in late September or early October. The old wive’s tale is that when they appear it is six weeks until frost — or at least much cooler temperatures. A number of area residents have reported seeing the lilies blooming already. This one is at Publisher Jim Cox’s place in Coffeeville. If hurricanes aren’t enough, we may need to be getting out the Long Johns and the electric blankets sooner than usual!
