Stealing birthday money armed with BB guns

An 18-year-old Jackson man and four juveniles have been arrested and charged with stealing a minimal amount of money at gunpoint from an individual at the Grove Hill Senior Citizen Center.

Grove Hill police officers responded to a call at the center the evening of Jan. 30.

Officer Robert Barron arrived and spoke with the victim who stated that a group of young males walked into his birthday party and approached a table where he had cards and presents and one of the suspects lifted his shirt and showed that he was carrying a handgun in his belt.

The suspects picked up a card that contained some money, reported to have been about $20, in it and all five of them walked outside with the victim and others following them asking them to return the card and money.

One of the suspects walked to their vehicle and opened the trunk and pulled out what looked like an assault rifle and pointed it at the victim and others and then they got into the vehicle and sped away.

Officer Barron put a BOLO out for the car and later Jackson Police stopped the vehicle and found all five suspects and the weapons in the vehicle.

Clarke County Sheriff’s Dept. Chief Investigator Ron Baggette was called to assist Grove Hill officers and it was discovered that the weapons used were actually BB guns that looked like real firearms.

Out of the five, one suspect, Cameron Stabler, of Jackson, was 18. He along with two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old were booked into the Clarke County Jail for first degree robbery.

A 15-year-old juvenile was transported to the Strickland Youth Facility in Baldwin County.
