We will miss this place as we continue journey

The first sermon I preached at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church was entitled, “Standing Firm and Moving Forward.” In the sermon I said that there are things in the Christian faith that doesn’t change, such as the promises of God, our belief in a God of love and mercy and God’s assurance of eternal life. These are some of the things that we stand firm on.

However, the Christian faith is also a call to move forward on a journey. Moving to the places God is calling us to go. Sometimes the call is to step out in faith to do new ministries that make us uncomfortable. At other times, He calls us to step out in faith and move to do ministry in a different place. Judy and I are approaching another turn in the road as we seek to be faithful to the ministry that God is calling us to. June 13, will be our last day to serve here in Grove Hill.

As we make this turn in the road, I want you to know we have thoroughly enjoyed sharing the journey with this church family and community over the past five years. Thank you for opening your homes and hearts to us as we have sought to extend God’s love to all His children. While we are anticipating new challenges, we will miss each of you and you will always be in our hearts.

Several of you have inquired about our new appointment. The church I will be pastoring is the First United Methodist Church of Chipley, Fla.

If you extend the same warmth and friendship to Brother Dave Rhodes and his family that you have shown us, I know they will have a fruitful ministry here in Grove Hill.

Remember that God is good, all the time and I’ll see you at the place where God walks with us on our journey.
