Grand Jury issues 157 indictments
The Clarke County Grand Jury has issued 157 criminal indictments, including 124 felonies and 81 misdemeanors. The grand jury met last week and concluded their work on Aug. 28 with a report to Presiding Circuit Judge C. Robert Montgomery. Car burns up on Highway 84
Grove Hill firefighters responded to a car fire on Highway 84 West Tuesday night. The car was totally engulfed when they arrived. Nine firefighters and three trucks responded to the call at 9:41 p.m. The car was a total loss. No details were available at press time.
Sunday alcohol sales to be decided at Sept. 18 meeting
The Grove Hill City Council will vote on the question of allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays in the municipal limits at the next meeting on Monday, Sept. 18. Walmart overcharges on grocery state sales tax discount on first day; offers $5 gift card to make amends
The one-cent sales tax discount on groceries started in Alabama Friday, Sept. 1. The change didn’t go without some glitches. Walmart confirmed that some of its stores and Sam’s Club members in Alabama were mistakenly overcharged sales tax.
